Evening cape 1893 - 1897

This black evening cape, created by the Parisian department store Bon Marché between 1893 and 1897, is a fine example of late 19th-century fashion. The cape, made of sheer black silk with a delicate pleated pattern, is adorned with black sequins and velvet ribbons tied into large bows. The cape’s intricate details and luxurious materials speak to the elegance and sophistication of fashion during the Belle Epoque era. It is currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
