Vasile Kazar made this drawing, Window Towards Insomnia (3), with what looks like ink on paper, a medium that invites quick and intuitive gestures. Looking at this flurry of lines, I wonder what it was like for Kazar, sitting there, maybe late at night, letting the pen wander across the page. The lines are so restless and anxious; they almost seem to be searching for a form, a way to express something lurking beneath the surface. The figure is composed of nervous contours, each one added with a sense of urgency. I'm getting outsider art vibes here. I imagine Kazar, like other artists who are compelled to make things, following his vision, his need to capture the elusive phantoms of the night. It reminds me that art is often about process. We, as artists, keep each other company through time as we explore the space between seeing and feeling, between intention and accident.
