This is Nicholas Acampora's Muffin Pan, created with what looks like watercolour on paper. The palette is earthy and muted, mostly in browns, capturing the essence of old cookware, something you might find in your grandma's kitchen. You can sense the artist carefully building up layers of thin washes to create a sense of form and shadow. Imagine Acampora sitting, quietly observing the object, trying to capture every curve and dent with delicate brushstrokes. It’s interesting, isn't it, how Acampora chose this humble object as a subject matter and immortalised it in paint? This almost feels like a portrait, don't you think? The light is soft and diffused, casting shadows in each of the muffin receptacles. It makes me wonder how other artists would've painted this; what would Manet or Morandi have done with this pan? All artists are in conversation, riffing off each other’s ideas across time. Painting is about possibilities—it doesn't provide fixed answers but leaves you open to multiple readings.
