Curator: Menashe Kadishman's "Mountain B" presents us with a rather stark landscape. What's your initial reaction? Editor: The starkness is precisely what grabs me. It feels almost primordial, that heavy, dark plate hovering above. Curator: Kadishman was deeply concerned with the Israeli landscape and its transformation. This print, with its textured surfaces, seems to wrestle with ideas of construction and alteration. Editor: That black disc disrupts the natural order. It's an eclipse, a void, or perhaps a stylized sun, depending on how you interpret the symbolism. Curator: The layering of textures, the screen-printing process itself, mimics the geological stratification, the building up and tearing down of the land. Editor: True, and the red hues suggest both earth and blood, a land marked by history and perhaps conflict. It's a powerful, concise visual statement. Curator: A statement made tangible through the very act of its making. Editor: Ultimately, its power lies in its ambiguity, its ability to evoke multiple interpretations.
