Joshua Flint made this "Electric Dream" out of paint, and I'm immediately drawn to how he’s built up the image through layers of washes and blurry forms. It feels like he's not just depicting a scene but also capturing a memory. The lower third of the canvas is fascinating – a crowd of figures clustered around these dark, boxy shapes. The texture here is key; the paint application is thin, almost transparent in places, which gives the scene a ghostly, ephemeral quality. But then, look at the figures in the background and how the paint is scraped and blurred, obscuring details. It's as if Flint is deliberately playing with our perception, inviting us to question what we're seeing. This reminds me of Gerhard Richter's blurred photographs, where the act of painting becomes a way of questioning the stability of images and memories. In the end, the piece embraces a certain ambiguity, inviting us to bring our own associations and interpretations to the table.
