Reinier Vinkeles made this etching, “Oude man voor een tent omringd door putti, twee vrouwen en drie mannen,” sometime in the late eighteenth century. The work invites us to consider representations of aging and familial bonds within a society that was rapidly changing due to Enlightenment ideas. Here, the bodies of cherubic putti contrast with the older man, seated before a tent.
