This print, "Très Parisien", was made by G-P. Joumard in 1925. It’s all line and flat color, like a stencil. It makes me wonder how Joumard planned each layer, and how long it took to make the design. I'm thinking about the hand, and what it might have been like to make this artwork. What was Joumard trying to convey with these images? Two women stand in dresses designed by Créations Anna. The artist is dealing with depicting fashion – the draped fabric, the jewelry, the art deco furniture. Joumard is showing us the now of then. Looking at this print, I think of other artists, like Sonia Delaunay, who combined abstraction and design, or even someone like Erte. Artists are always in conversation, you know, always building on what came before. Hopefully, this gives you a different way of seeing this artwork.
