This is "Window" by Wladyslaw Strzeminski, painted sometime in the first half of the 20th century. The composition and colours are really bold and angular, aren’t they? You can almost see Strzeminski standing there, wrestling with the canvas, trying to figure out what this window really means. I love the way the black outlines cut through the softer hues. That big T-shape is so striking, but also… awkward? I imagine him stepping back, squinting, and then deciding to leave it, its shape echoing across the work. The yellow and green... That olive green colour is interesting, a grounding force for the more whimsical blues. It reminds me a little of Leger, a contemporary of his. All of these choices, these colors, they’re like a conversation between painters across time and space. It’s all just one big, messy, beautiful exchange of ideas, a constant push and pull that never really resolves itself, right?
