Roy Lichtenstein made this large painting, "Glass and lemon in a mirror" with oil and magna on canvas. I love the way Lichtenstein has created this still life, like a cartoonish, graphic puzzle. It’s not about depth or realism. Instead, it’s about these bold shapes and colours bumping up against each other, creating a playful, almost architectural kind of tension. The thick black outlines feel so decisive, boxing in the bright yellows, blues, and blacks. Then you see those diagonal lines – that’s classic Lichtenstein! Look at how he's used them to suggest shadow and form within the glass. It’s like he's saying, "I’m making a painting, and I'm showing you how I’m doing it!" It makes you think about how we see and interpret the world through simplified forms. It reminds me of Picasso’s Cubist paintings, where objects are broken down and reassembled. But Lichtenstein takes it a step further, giving it that Pop Art punch. It is so simple yet so intriguing.
