This handwritten letter to Andries Bonger was created by Käthe Wintzer in 1961 with a fountain pen on thin, white paper. You can see the ink bleed slightly into the page, where the pressure of the pen lingered. It's interesting to think about how the act of writing itself, the physical movement of the hand across the page, becomes a kind of dance or performance. I can imagine Wintzer sitting down, maybe at a desk or table, with the intention to connect with Bonger, her thoughts flowing onto the page, a direct line from her mind to the recipient. You know, writing is a way of thinking out loud, and in this letter, it's like we're eavesdropping on Wintzer's train of thought. Artists are always in conversation with each other, building on ideas, responding to what came before, and this letter is a part of that ongoing exchange, a little moment of connection preserved in ink.
