Editor: This is Charlotte Berend-Corinth's "Portrait of Dr. Georg Zondek," housed at the Harvard Art Museums. It has this wonderful, slightly unsettling, but direct gaze. What do you make of it? Curator: Unsettling is spot on! It's like she's captured a moment of intense thought, almost a challenge, in his eyes. There's a touch of early 20th-century German expressionism in how she uses color. It's not quite flattering, is it? Almost confrontational, and yet, deeply human. What do you think that teacup says to him? Editor: Perhaps a moment of pause, to reflect on his thoughts. Thank you! Curator: My pleasure. I wonder what Berend-Corinth's reflection was in painting him? Food for thought!
