Albedo 2018

Di Vogo made this dreamlike painting called ‘Albedo’ with oils, and it feels like entering a world where the real and the imagined are constantly shifting. It’s this kind of painting that reminds me why art is so damn cool. The colours are soft, almost like a faded photograph, but then you get these pops of bright pinks and reds that pull you right back into the present. Looking at the face, it’s like the artist is building up the image in layers, almost like a collage. See how some parts are more defined, and others are just these blurry washes of colour? Especially around her head, you can see how the forms almost dissolve. There’s a real sense of the artist working with the paint, letting it do its thing. It reminds me of someone like Odilon Redon, with his strange and beautiful dreamscapes.
