This parasol, with its canopy of white cotton printed with patterns in red, purple, blue, and pink, is held aloft by a bamboo stick and embodies the art of making as a process. The colour palette is muted yet playful, reminiscent of folk textiles where dyes are used to create spontaneous, improvised patterns. Looking closely, the surface reveals a fascinating interplay between the soft cotton and the repetitive yet organic patterns printed on it. The texture of the cotton invites touch, whilst the patterns, almost like abstract landscapes, guide our gaze across the surface. Notice how the combination of colors and shapes creates a sense of movement, as if the parasol is perpetually caught in a gentle breeze. The parasol reminds me a little of Sonia Delaunay's simultaneous designs, which were also rooted in the process of repeated shapes and colour. Art making, like this parasol, is an ongoing conversation, a dialogue between materials, colors, and forms, inviting endless interpretations.
