These landscapes, rendered in etching, present contrasting yet harmonious scenes. Note the use of line and form; In the upper panel the calm water reflects the treeline to create symmetry, while the lower panel teems with the dense undergrowth of the forest floor and provides us with a glimpse of wildlife. The fox in the forest scene is not just an element of the landscape, but also a signifier. Semiologically, the fox destabilizes the meaning of the 'Boslandschap', infusing a sense of wilderness within the structured composition. These carefully composed panels do not merely represent landscapes, but invite ongoing engagement with nature's inherent ambiguities and complexities.
