Editor: Corita Kent's screenprint, "only you and i (part 1)," really grabs your attention with its bold pink and fragmented text. It's almost a visual poem, but what does it all mean? Curator: Ah, Corita. Her work is such a vibrant dance between text and image, isn’t it? To me, this piece is about possibility and limitation, or perhaps the space between what can be and what is. Notice the use of that vibrant pink. Does it energize you? Editor: It does! But I'm also a little confused by the lines of text. Curator: Exactly! Corita often pulled phrases from everyday life – song lyrics, advertising slogans, even scripture – and recontextualized them. It’s about seeing the world anew, isn't it? What feelings emerge? Editor: I guess I feel a sense of…optimism, mixed with a little bit of uncertainty? Curator: I agree, a beautiful tension. I think Corita's art invites us to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. It's all about how we choose to see. Editor: I never thought about it that way! It's like she's giving us a puzzle to solve, but the answer is a feeling.
