This photogravure, *Zeegezicht*, captures a seascape, a study of the sea's surface. Looking at this piece, I imagine F.H. Wasley, the photographer, with their equipment. The light, the air, the sounds! What might they have been thinking, standing there, trying to translate the immensity of the ocean into a single image? The photograph is black and white. The sea looks choppy and the waves crash on the surface. They form a jagged line where the ocean meets the sky. It reminds me of other artists and the way they explored water as a subject. Think of someone like Gerhardt Richter. His seascapes also explored capturing the essence of nature's beauty. I think art is one big conversation with the artist and the viewer as participants. Like a wave itself, the artist's intention can be interpreted as it washes onto the shore.
