This is the cover of a photo album made by various members of the British Photographic Association, PCUK, from their trip to the Netherlands. I love the cover's marbled paper. It's not quite teal, not quite blue, but somewhere in between, like a cloudy sky just after a storm. Marbling is such a process-oriented technique. You can't quite control it, you just have to let the colors swirl and mix, like life. The dark and light elements create a sense of depth and movement, as if the cover itself is a landscape. Running through the marbled surface, thin veins of gold suggest hidden pathways or maybe just the glint of sunlight on water. That subtle detail, that little touch of unexpected shimmer, elevates the whole thing. It reminds me a bit of Agnes Martin's delicate lines and grids, that quiet intensity. Both reveal how simplicity and restraint can speak volumes. Like any good photograph, or painting, this album cover invites you to look closer, to discover new details each time.
