This print of a window with curtains was made by Léon Laroche. It’s hard to know when exactly, but it feels so fresh, like it could have been made yesterday. The colour palette here is amazing, this soft green is so beautiful, especially with the pinkish peach of the swag and curtains. Look at how the artist suggests depth through shading, and gives the material weight. What I love about art is how it always comes back to process, to understanding the physicality of the medium. You can really see that here. Art, at its best, is a conversation across time, and I’m reminded of someone like Erté who embraced decoration as a valid mode of expression. These two artists are very different, but I see a common ground in their dedication to beauty, and a shared belief in the power of art to transform the everyday. Ultimately, art isn’t about answers, it’s about possibilities.
