Editor: So here we have "Meu corpo árvore" from 2001 by Alberto Carneiro, an installation made of wood right here in the gallery. It’s interesting how the raw wooden pieces sort of sprawl across this pristine white space. I get a sense of nature reclaiming territory, maybe? What do you make of it? Curator: That reclaiming idea resonates, definitely. The wood, so clearly organic, pushes against the gallery's rigid geometry. For me, Carneiro seems to be asking us: where does nature end, and where does culture begin? Look how the skylight above almost acts as another part of the sculpture. Does that natural light change your initial impression? Editor: It does, it blurs that line even further! With the sunlight streaming in, the piece feels less like an imposition and more like it belongs here, like a fallen branch indoors. But how much of that feeling do you think comes from just *seeing* the other trees through the skylight, not from the sculpture itself? Curator: Ah, you’re sharp! Perhaps that’s part of the genius— he manipulates our perception. Do the wooden pieces reflect some kind of order, do you think, or is this a representation of a chaotic view of Nature? There are lots of small installations too... they are barely seen on the photograph, they might be more important on location... Editor: Maybe a little of both? Nature can seem chaotic on the surface, but there’s always a hidden order underneath. The way these pieces connect...I see patterns like the grain of wood following an underlying logic. Curator: Yes, perhaps Carneiro wants us to recognize ourselves in nature, the way our lives branch out in so many directions while still remaining rooted in our origins. It really makes one ponder... Editor: It really does, the sculpture felt initially stark, but now it's got so many layers to it. Thanks for untangling them with me!
