Olafur Eliasson created this interactive environment, ‘Take your time’, to challenge our perceptions and experiences of space. Eliasson’s work often reflects his interest in phenomenology, that is, how we experience and understand the world through our senses. With his installations he creates spaces where light, shadow, and reflection play tricks on our minds. 'Take your time' encourages us to slow down and become aware of our own presence in the gallery. The mirror acts as both a surface and a portal, inviting us to reconsider our relationship to the environment around us. Eliasson has stated that he aims to create "situations, where visitors become aware of their seeing". By using simple materials and playing with scale, Eliasson evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity. What does it mean to see ourselves reflected in a space that is both familiar and strange? Eliasson reminds us that our perception shapes our reality. 'Take your time' asks us to reconsider how we engage with the spaces we inhabit.
