This is an untitled piece by Charlotte Posenenske, and it looks like it was made with paint on some kind of board or heavy paper. It's a direct kind of painting, where the process is right there on the surface. I love how the colors—a dark brown, a vivid blue, and a black—are laid down in these chunky, almost brick-like strokes. You can really see the texture of the paint, how it’s thick in some spots and thinner in others, creating this physical presence that jumps out at you. Look at the way the black paint sort of stacks up, one stroke over another, like she was building something. The immediacy of the mark-making really grabs you. It reminds me a little of the work of Franz Kline, but with a more architectural feel. Ultimately, it’s about the materiality of paint, the gesture, and the pure act of making. It’s about seeing what happens when color meets surface, and letting the process guide the way.
