Curator: Oh, the gravitas! This engraving of Moses, likely by Gérard Edelinck, just radiates intensity. Editor: It's the eyes, isn't it? They bore right through you. And those rays emanating from his head—so theatrical! What exactly is he holding? Curator: The Tablets of the Law, a summary inscribed on the pedestal tells us, "Love God with all your heart, and your neighbor as yourself." Edelinck captured a profound moment. Editor: Those hands, they are so wrinkled, so old...as if holding the weight of the world. He looks weary, almost burdened by the divine revelation. The light is so interesting. Curator: True, it’s a portrait of responsibility, but also, perhaps, a kind of sorrow. It is a complex and moving depiction, with symbols and meaning. Editor: Well, that’s certainly made me rethink my initial, slightly glib reaction. There’s a lot more here than initially meets the eye.
