Joseph Lubrano made this quilt with various materials. The eye is immediately drawn to its geometric layout of diagonal bands. It is like you’re looking at the secret inner life of a quilt, all the seams and hidden patterns exposed. I can imagine Lubrano carefully selecting each piece, perhaps remnants from other projects, each with its own story. Notice the band of blue floral fabric next to the striped pink one; the juxtaposition of the two must have been a deliberate choice, a conversation between patterns. There’s a rhythm in the way these fabrics are arranged. What was Lubrano thinking as he stitched these together? Was it a meditative process, a way to pass the time? The act of quilting itself, the repetitive motion of needle and thread, becomes a form of expression. This piece feels less about perfection and more about the imperfect beauty of handmade objects. It reminds us that art is not just about the final product, but about the journey of creation.
