Grazia Varisco's 'Silenzi' is a black and white construction, a series of interlocking frames that both reveal and conceal. The artist must have had so much fun! I wonder what the process was like, how she was intuitively shifting and playing with the forms. I imagine Varisco building up a complex system of planes, where silence isn’t just the absence of sound but a positive presence, a spatial experience. The solid black forms create a rhythm against the white background, but instead of a clear melody, the rhythm is syncopated and surprising. It's interesting to think about how Varisco’s exploration of perception and structure relates to the work of other artists such as Sol LeWitt or Agnes Martin. But in this case, there’s an added layer of playful ambiguity, like a game of hide-and-seek with our own perception. Ultimately, an artwork like 'Silenzi' is about seeing, thinking, and experiencing the world in new ways, inviting us to embrace ambiguity and uncertainty. It’s through this exchange of ideas and creative inspiration that art continues to evolve and surprise us.
