David Michael Hinnebusch made this lively painting titled ‘Jujenn and Friends’ with what looks like acrylic and maybe oil paint, creating a vibrant, colourful tableau. The process feels immediate, each brushstroke visible, almost urgent, like a snapshot of a fleeting thought. The figures emerge from a background of chaotic color, built up from layers of brushstrokes and drizzles in pinks, greens, yellows, and blacks. I'm drawn to the figure on the right. The artist has exposed the brain, while the body is striated with thin pink and white lines. It’s raw and honest, a glimpse into the interior. This rawness reminds me of the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, the way he fearlessly laid bare the complexities of human existence, blending a childlike approach with adult subject matter. Like all good art, this piece embraces ambiguity, opening up a space for personal interpretation and emotional connection.
