Franz Marc painted “A Dog”, of course, with oil on canvas and a wild imagination. Look at these intense oranges, greens, and blues, and the angular shapes! I can only imagine Marc in his studio wrestling with the image, trying to evoke the essence of these creatures rather than their mere appearance. I’m thinking about how the white dog is stretched and bent as it runs away through the forest, or maybe it is just waking up from a dream, or being re-born, right here on the canvas! Do you see how the brushstrokes dance across the surface, creating a palpable sense of movement and energy? Marc was part of the “Blue Rider” group, and deeply influenced by artists like Kandinsky. He was trying to tap into some kind of primal, spiritual dimension through his art – painting dogs, cats, and foxes as conduits to pure emotion. And as such, he was in conversation with all of us. We're all constantly riffing off each other, chasing that elusive feeling, trying to make it visible.
