This is an Untitled work by Rodolfo Arico, and the kind of painting that feels as though it has arrived through intuition. The geometric divisions across the surface create a grid, framing these shapes and making them appear somehow provisional. I can imagine Arico thinking about the nature of form, how shapes interact, and the spaces that open up between them. There’s a pink lozenge shape resting on what could be a yellow see-saw; above, a column of floating rectangles. There's a real sense of play here. The paint isn’t overworked, the surface isn't too fussy. It’s that kind of lightness of touch that keeps things alive and uncertain. It’s interesting to think about how artists respond to one another's works. You get the sense that Arico is in conversation with the language of abstraction, asking how we can find new ways of seeing, thinking, and making. It leaves me wondering what I can do in my own studio today.
