This collection of black and white photographs by the Wachenheimer family, was created in Baden-Baden in April 1933. There's something very tactile about these small prints, the deckled edges and subtle tonal variations are beautiful. I love how these images are mounted in the album, held in place with corner tabs or glue, each one a small window into a specific moment. The photograph in the lower left really captivates me. The bench, solid and still, a testament to time, contrasts with the forest in the background, its slender trees reaching towards the sky. This image has an interesting push and pull - the crispness of the bench versus the blur of the trees beyond. These photographs remind me of the work of Gerhard Richter, whose blurred images feel imbued with memory. As with Richter, these capture something fleeting, a sense of time passing.
