This terracotta pyxis with a lid, a miniature piece, was crafted by the Swan Group. Notice how the shape, a diminutive cylinder supported by stylized legs, suggests both containment and elevation. The ochre surface is punctuated by dark, stylized swan motifs, which lend a rhythmic quality to the vessel's body. Above, the lid is decorated with concentric circles of dots, guiding the eye toward the central knob, finished with horizontal lines, like a miniature study in form and decoration. The very size of the piece invites contemplation on the nature of scale. Is it a mere decorative object, or does its smallness amplify its significance? It's a question that lingers, an invitation to reconsider our assumptions about value and importance.
