Bernard Cohen made this print, and when I look at it I imagine him, thinking, "I'm gonna put some color in here, but just a teeny bit..." A wide plane of white meets a border of dark green. But then: a quiet row of dots—pale blues, a yellow. They're not clamoring for attention, yet they’re not hiding either. They are there, very present, and they are not going anywhere. They create a rhythm, a quiet, almost meditative beat. I think of Agnes Martin, and her subtle grids. And I imagine Cohen, in his studio, experimenting, refining, making these little dots and creating something meditative and very beautiful. It's a conversation, an ongoing exchange among painters across time. It’s not about answers, but about seeing, feeling, and thinking in color.
