Richard Tepe took this photo of a seagull's nest with eggs sometime during his life between 1864 and 1952. I'm curious about the way the natural light hits those blades of grass, the subtle tones and the interplay of textures – the spiky grass against the smooth eggs. You know, it reminds me that photography, like painting, is all about capturing a moment, a feeling, a way of seeing. I wonder if Tepe was thinking about the fragility of life when he framed this shot. The quietness of the nest is like a little meditation on nature, on cycles, on beginnings. Artists are always in conversation, whether they know it or not, riffing off each other's ideas, trying new things, failing, succeeding. And that's what makes art so alive.
