Marc Chagall made this black and white print called, *The Sun and the Frogs*, using etched lines to create a fantastic landscape. I imagine Chagall hunched over a metal plate, carefully drawing with a sharp needle, building up these fuzzy, soft masses. Look at how the lines swarm around the sun, almost vibrating with energy. It’s a dark sun, heavy, casting its strange light over the scene. I can almost hear the croaking of those frogs down below. You know, printmaking is such a cool process, it's indirect, like you have to trust the process, almost blindly. It’s like a collaboration with the materials, a dance between control and accident. I think of other artists like Goya, who also used printmaking to explore his inner world, his dreams and nightmares. There is an exchange of ideas across time, inspiring one another’s creativity. So good.
