Editor: This woodcut print, called "Miracle ?," is an anonymous work housed at the Harvard Art Museums. The stark lines give it a sense of seriousness, but also, dare I say, simplicity? What could a miracle even look like rendered in this style? Curator: A perfect question. The uncertainty in the title mirrors the open-ended nature of faith itself. Notice how the linear quality creates almost a stage-like setting. It invites us, the viewers, to project our own understandings, our own "miracles," into the scene. Editor: So it's less about depicting a specific event, and more about creating space for individual interpretation. Curator: Precisely! The miracle isn't in the image, but in what it sparks within us. Editor: I guess that means we're all part of the artwork. Curator: Exactly! Maybe that's the real miracle here.
