Peter Busa’s “Constellation” is a dance of forms rendered with gouache, where every shape and line seems to hum with its own energy. The process feels additive, built up in layers of color and gesture. I can imagine Busa working intuitively, letting the painting evolve organically. Look at the interplay between the black background and the soft green plane, punctuated by lively figures outlined in white. It's like a stage set for some kind of cosmic vaudeville. Each shape is delineated but also open, suggesting faces, figures, and maybe even constellations. I feel a kinship with Busa here, a shared interest in the ways that forms can float and converse. I wonder if he was thinking about Miró, or maybe even Native American art? All these artists explore a similar visual language, where symbolic forms can convey complex ideas and emotions. The way the elements of the painting balance each other and open a space for free association is a conversation across generations of painters who have sought to capture something elusive and ineffable.
