This photograph shows the Salzmannschool in Schnepfenthal, a place of education nestled amongst trees. Dominating the view is the school's architecture, which is crowned with a spire, a symbol stretching back to antiquity. That spire—reaching towards the heavens—can be traced through millennia, a visual echo of obelisks in ancient Egypt, symbols of power and the sun god Ra. Their form moved to the West, where they later adorned Christian churches, now directing the gaze, not towards Ra, but towards the divine. This reaching upwards speaks to a fundamental human desire to connect with something beyond our earthly existence. It is a beacon, an expression of aspiration. The spire, like a visual melody, has changed its tune across history, yet it continues to stir within us a sense of longing and spiritual yearning.
