Michel Parmentier created "15 Octobre" using blue and white horizontal stripes. It's all about the process, like watching someone methodically laying down each stripe, considering the space between, the balance. The blue is so crisp, almost like it’s been screen-printed, and against the white, it really pops. There’s a flatness to it, a deliberate lack of texture, that forces you to focus on the pure color and form. Look closely at where the blue meets the white, there are subtle imperfections in the line, almost a wavering between the two. Parmentier’s work reminds me a bit of Agnes Martin in its meditative quality, but with a cooler, more detached vibe. It's like he's stripping painting down to its most basic elements, asking us what it really means to create an image, or maybe he is just pointing to how simple it can be.
