Carlos Sablòn painted Métropole with oils, and it’s like stepping into a dream, right? The colors are saturated, almost hyper-real, which gives the whole scene this otherworldly vibe. You can tell Sablòn is really into the process; it's not just about the image but also about the act of making. Look at the way the paint is applied to that central mushroom-city! Thick in some spots, almost like impasto, especially on the trunk where you can see the texture mimicking bark. Then, up top, it thins out, giving that transparent dome a sense of fragility. And there's that sharp crack, a dramatic slash across the smooth surface. I love that because it's both beautiful and destructive, like a metaphor for the tensions between progress and decay. It reminds me a bit of Hieronymus Bosch, with its bizarre landscapes and weird creatures, but with a modern twist. Ultimately, Métropole invites us to wander through its mysteries, embracing its multiple possibilities, its endless interpretations.
