This untitled piece by Soledad Sevilla is a real trip into pattern and colour, probably made with screen printing or some other technique that allows for clean, repeated shapes. I can almost feel the artist setting up the screen, carefully aligning each layer of red and brown. It’s like she’s building a visual rhythm, a beat that pulses across the surface. I wonder if she was listening to music while she made this? It reminds me of Sol Lewitt but with a warmer palette. Look at how the rounded squares and semi-circles play off each other; the reds vibrate against the brown, creating a kind of optical buzz. It’s a simple composition, but there’s something hypnotic about it, like a mantra or a visual echo. Soledad's work makes you realise how painting isn't just about what you see, but about how you see, and how that changes everything. I think that is what painting is all about.
