Daniel Buren’s *TII-205* is a painting that's all about process, you can tell that straight away from the way the paint has been applied. It's less about the image and more about the making of the image. What I love about this painting is its materiality. The texture is so present, it makes you want to reach out and touch it. The paint is laid on thick in some areas, thin in others, with a real focus on the physicality of the medium. Look at that band of yellow and green running horizontally across the middle. It's not just a block of color, it’s a series of drips, a record of the artist’s hand at work. It's like he's saying, "Here's the evidence, here's how I made this." For me, Buren is in conversation with artists like Blinky Palermo, who also stripped painting back to its bare essentials. Like Palermo, Buren embraces ambiguity, inviting us to bring our own interpretations to the work.
