Jonathan Grant Meader made this serene print, Holding II, with who knows what kind of process, but it feels very held indeed. The piece has this overwhelming blueness, a palette that seems to be about a specific feeling, like when you get caught in a moment of twilight. The texture almost feels like a memory, as if the window and the night outside are pressed into your mind. And the window itself is like an idea of a window, simple and strong, giving the scene a sense of calm. I love the little patch of lavender in the distance, like a note held just long enough to make you think. And the shooting star, how perfect! I’m reminded of how Agnes Martin used grids to create these expansive emotional fields. Meader, here, uses a window. It's like he's saying that looking out is also looking in. Art does that, doesn't it?
