This “Paperweight” is a beautiful example of millefiori glasswork, a technique popularized in 19th-century France. The Compagnie de Saint Louis, a renowned glassmaker, created this paperweight sometime between 1848 and 1855. Millefiori, meaning “a thousand flowers,” features a colorful, intricate design of small glass rods fused together. The paperweight features a central flower motif surrounded by a border of swirling colorful designs. This miniature work of art is a testament to the craftsmanship and artistry of the glassmakers of the time, showcasing the beauty and delicacy of the millefiori technique.
