Iwo Zaniewski made 'Children’s Party in the Studio' with a flurry of crayon-like marks in reds, blues and yellows that feel like a half-remembered dream. You can almost feel the party energy fizzing off the surface. I imagine Zaniewski, brush in hand, trying to pin down this moment of children running wild. Look at the looping lines that make up the figures, they almost vibrate with movement. What do you think he was thinking when he made this? Maybe he was trying to capture the chaos and joy of childhood, the way kids see the world as a playground. It reminds me a little of Bonnard, that same sense of capturing a fleeting moment, but with a raw, almost childlike energy of its own. Artists, you know, we're always riffing off each other, having this ongoing conversation across time. And, ultimately, painting is about embracing the messy, ambiguous stuff of life.
