This Écuelle was created by Johann Jakob Bruglocher II in the first half of the 18th century. It's made of silver and located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Notice how the bowl is carefully designed with a lid that has two handles on top of it. These handles are in a symmetric shape. Then notice the two larger, more ornate handles on either side of the bowl. The silver material reflects light, which may create a sense of elegance. The detailed designs on both the bowl and its lid show the artist's expertise in metalwork. The formal structure of this piece, with its round body and balanced handles, brings harmony between classical form and decorative style. The artist uses the bowl as a blank canvas to demonstrate the cultural values of sophistication and craft. The bowl's practical use is enhanced by its elaborate design. The object reflects the aesthetic values and craftsmanship of its time.
