"El Veterinario (The Veterinary)" is a 1942 woodcut by the Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada, best known for his satirical prints depicting Mexican life. The print depicts a scene of a horse being treated by a veterinarian in a humorous, exaggerated style characteristic of Posada's work. The print is a satirical advertisement for a collection of veterinary remedies, printed by the firm of Vanegas Arroyo in Mexico City. Posada's prints often addressed social issues, poverty, and the human condition. He died in 1913, but his work continued to be published and reproduced in the years after his death. "El Veterinario" is an example of the work of a Mexican artist whose prints are highly sought after.
