"God verschijnt aan Mozes in een rookkolom" (God Appears to Moses in a Pillar of Smoke) is a 1675 etching by Italian artist Cesare Fantetti. The print depicts a scene from the Book of Exodus, in which God appears to Moses in a burning bush. The scene takes place in a camp of tents, with Moses kneeling in the foreground, reaching out towards the burning bush as the pillar of smoke rises above it. Fantetti’s work draws inspiration from classical art and Baroque trends, portraying the scene with an emphasis on drama and detail. This etching is a prime example of the religious imagery produced in the 17th century, where biblical narratives were rendered in visual form. The etching is a small-scale work, measuring 248 mm in height and 264 mm in width.
