Robert Rauschenberg made "Gear (Jammer)" with fabric, and I can only imagine how it all came into being, shifting, emerging, and folding with intuition. Looking at this piece, I sympathize with Rauschenberg. I imagine him thinking about the meeting point between design, art, and the everyday. The red, blue and yellow horizontal stripes have a casual and yet deliberate feel. It's the kind of piece where the material, its texture, and color really shape your experience. I think about the history of painting and how artists are always in conversation, inspiring each other’s creativity across time. Rauschenberg’s “Gear (Jammer)” is an interesting, and funny, statement in that conversation. It embraces ambiguity, allowing for multiple interpretations. It makes me think and feel. It's alive!
