This is a photographic series, "Empowering and Feminist Workshop Made by Men," by Hifa Cybe. There's something undeniably stark about Cybe's approach. The black and white images give it a raw, almost confrontational feel. The texture of the photographs, the way the light catches, or doesn’t, is almost tangible. The compositions are all fairly similar. In each one, the model poses under a spotlight, which emphasizes the power dynamics inherent in the photographic process, challenging our expectations. Look at the way the light illuminates the figure in the top right. The harsh light creates deep shadows, almost obscuring parts of the body. There’s something both revealing and concealing about that, isn't there? It reminds me a little of Cindy Sherman’s work. Artists like Cybe, like Sherman, invite us to question the narratives we consume and the perspectives we take for granted. It is a reminder that art isn’t about answers; it’s about the questions we dare to ask.
