Editor: So, this is Robyn Denny's "Suite 66 IV." I find the dark square looming over those geometric shapes quite intense. What can you tell me about this work? Curator: Consider the silk-screen printing process. Denny carefully layered flat colors. Think about the physical labor, the industrial nature of the materials, and the post-war context of mass production. Does this resonate with you? Editor: I see what you mean! The repetition does have an almost manufactured feel. Curator: Exactly. It challenges the preciousness often associated with art. What is being consumed, by whom, and how? Editor: That makes me think about the accessibility of art in the 60s versus now. Thanks, that really changes how I see the piece. Curator: Indeed. It's all about the means of making and the conditions of reception.
