Curatorial notes

Niels Larsen Stevns made these skeletal sketches with graphite on paper. You know, drawing can be a way of thinking, a process, not just about the final product. I love the repetitive nature of these studies, the way the artist explores form by revisiting similar shapes, one after another. The texture of the paper is so present, you can almost feel its roughness. Look at the top right, where the shading is almost smudged, creating a ghostly effect. It reminds me that drawing is about touch, about pressure, and the physicality of mark-making. There's something about these bones that feels both ancient and immediate. Maybe Stevns was looking at old master drawings, or maybe he was just thinking about mortality. Art is always a conversation, a remix of what came before, and what we hope might come next.
