Cesar Domela made this print, Composition, sometime between 1979 and 1990, and it's all about the playful dance of forms and colors. The print feels so precise, yet spontaneous! Look at how the shapes intersect and overlap. There's something deeply satisfying about the way the solid blocks of peach and purple balance with the delicate lines and edges. Those colors aren’t fighting; they seem to be working together. The interplay between these elements creates a dynamic composition. It’s also so flat, isn’t it? But there is so much depth, and so many shapes that meet on the page. I can see a similarity to some of Joan Miró’s paintings where he also makes his shapes sing.
